INTER COLLEGE QUIZ CONTEST ON LIBRARIANS' DAY

WE INVITE OUR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS INTER  COLLEGE QUIZ CONTEST ON LIBRARIANS' DAY.

Library Through An Eye of A Student

As a student of Vidyasagar College for Women (batch of 2020), the library has been a place I frequented often. It houses several daily newspapers (both Bengali and English) and weekly / fortnightly magazines like the Indian Express, Frontline, and India Today amongst others. There is quite a large collection of books and test papers for competitive examinations like the IDBO, SSC, RBI grade B posts, etc.

The collection of books in political science and economics certainly covers the syllabus requirements, additionally including books beyond the UG scope. For instance, there are many anthologies of essays encapsulating critical analyses of different schools of thought. The other departments also have equally large collections, however, that is outside the purview of what I had studied, thus not commenting on the same. The English fiction collection is a pure treasure too! From Dostoyevsky to Amitav Ghosh, all popular literary greats are available to be read and borrowed.

My favourite, however, is a new initiative of an open library section on the corridor, outside the main VCFW library. There is a cabinet which is always open to everyone for donating their old books or borrowing something from the collection without anyone else's involvement. The result is a beautiful repository enriched by community support.

Withal, everyone at the library is extremely approachable and helpful. Moumita ma'am had helped me enrol with the N-LIST membership since I needed access to the EPW magazine. Everyone here is very kind and cooperative, and my sincerest gratitude to them for augmenting my UG life.

Wishing all future batches of VCFW a lovely time at this library!
